Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in shipbuilding
- Minimums 2 years experience in ship repairs
- Worked in the shipbuilding industry within the past 5 years
- Trade Tested Boilermaker (Red Seal) or equivalent qualification – preferred
- Proven ability to read and interpret EN/ISO shipbuilding drawings, including:
- Structural steel drawings
- Isometric, sectional, and end-view projections
- Symbol interpretation and material callouts
Technical Skills Required
- Cutting, fabrication, fitting, and assembly of ship structures, including:
- Hull sections
- Bulkheads
- Frames and stiffeners
- Tanks and structural modules
- Strong welding tack skills:
- Manual and semi-automatic tacking
- Ability to perform MIG / MAG / TIG welds (full welding qualifications are an advantage)
- Experience working with a variety of materials:
- Mild steel
- High-strength shipbuilding steel (e.g., AH36/DH36)
- Stainless steel
- Competent in:
- Oxy-acetylene cutting
- Plasma cutting
- Grinding, gouging, and general preparation work
Additional Competencies
- Able to work in confined spaces, onboard vessels, and at heights
- Understanding of shipyard safety standards
- Ability to work from detailed fabrication drawings with minimal supervision
- Experience assembling prefabricated modules and structural blocks is a strong advantage
